We have seen Christianity eliminated from the public square over the past few decades. The Bible has been tossed out of the schools, prayers cannot be offered at high school graduations, Nativity scenes have been removed from public places and for kids to pray in school, they must assemble outside in front of the flag pole.
The other day, I was at a Christian book store when I saw a necklace made out of a guitar pick with the words "pick Jesus" written on it. I thought my son Brandon might like it so I bought it for him. The next morning before school, I asked him if he was going to wear it to school. He said yes. As I was helping him put the necklace around his neck I noticed that the "pick Jesus" slogan had been blacked out with a magic marker. When I asked him why he did this he said, "I don't want to get in trouble at school...because you're not supposed to have any religious stuff."
My heart sank...and then I realized something. The school had already established in my son's mind that faith has no place at school. He has been brainwashed in 6 years of public education into believing that Christatianity is an inferior worldview than the one presented at school. In his educational upbringing so far, he has been taught about oral sex, condoms and homosexuality. He has been taught that evolution is a scientific fact without being exposed to differing views of human origin. He has seen the Christmas band concert renamed Holiday celebration and has been taught about Islam and Kwanza.
The fact is that there has been an establishment of a religion by government, despite what the Constitution says. That religion is secularism. Yes...secualrism is a religion because like Christianity it has its own theory of the origins of creation, a doctrine of humanity, a community of believers, a priesthood and sacraments.
Secularism believes in darwinism in creation, it believes that humankind is an accident, believes that the community should be assembled, controlled and regulated by the government and that humanity is weak and frail and needs to be taken care of by those in power. The priests are liberal progressives who preach diversity, tolerance and unity as if those were ends in and of themselves. The sacraments are diversity training and sex education. Their church begins in the public schools and extends into the farthest reachest of liberal politics.
The question is: How come no one is crying foul? It takes a lot more faith to be a committed secular progressive atheist than it does to believe in God. You must believe that the earth was created by accident, human beings are the result of chemical reactions and that the destiny of the world is without form or purpose. This is a belief without proof and thus a religion.
I believe that secular progressive thought is the single greatest threat to Christianity in America today. It's values are reinforced throughout public life and culture and in the public schools and by a media that that is in the tank. If they can convince my son that religion is not allowed to be expressed in the pubic school by wearing a necklace, they can convince every son and daughter.
