Jesus And The Media...

A couple of days ago on the floor of The U.S. House Of Representatives, two democratic congressman in separate speeches said the following in response to Obama and Sarah Palin: "Jesus was a community organizer...Pontius Pilate was a governer." Later that day on a cable news show democratic strategist Donna Brazile uttered the exact same phrase.

The intended meaning is obvious. Barak Obama is seen by many secular progressive liberals as the messiah for America today. For committted secularists to invoke the name of Jesus, comparing him to a presidential candidate shows how the secular progressive movement has actually become a religion. To these people, Obama is the new master providing us with teachings from the mount, seeking to unite us and give us new hope that is other worldly.

For a public figure of any ilk to be compared to Jesus is, to me, a prophecy that we must hear. There is in our world today an attempt to make sacred the secular. There is an attempt to bring spiritual qualities to that which is human. Obama is the new golden calf, created by the movement to bring spiritual qualities to that which is completely material.

This is a clear violation of the commandment to not misuse the name of the Lord. As Christians we should look carefully at the claims of any organization that seeks to invoke the divine for an earthly purpose. I think such organizations in the past have been referred to as cults.
