Where Are All The Feminists?

The recent nomination of Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain's Vice President has brought forth some of the most vicious personal attacks and smearing that I have seen in my 20 years of following politics.

The idea that because she has five children, including a down syndrom child and a pregnant 17 year-old daughter, she is somehow wrong to pursue the nomination for vice president is on its face completely sexist. Questions about her motherhood and commitment to her family have been rampant.

It is the worst example of sexism I have ever seen. I wonder where the outrage from the National Organization For Women is at! The truth of the matter is that Sarah Palin appeals to American women because she has walked in their shoes. She has been in the PTA, she served as mayor of her small town, she helped her husband in his commercial fishing business and managed to raise her family at the same time. That is why the McCain campaign has received a bump and is now leading in many of the polls.

The truth of the matter is that feminist organizations are not expressing outrage because Sarah Palin is not their kind of woman. She is pro-life, pro guns, and pro traditional family values and that simply does not go over in a pro-choice environment to which most feminists are beholden. Since she does not support the radical leftist agendas of these organizations relating to abortion and family planning they simply will not come to her defense. This begs the question: Are they about the advancement of women or their own political agendas?
